BG Pathum United hosted Thanh Hau FC in the third match of Group A in the ASEAN Club Championship “Shopee Cup™ 2024/25” on January 8, 2025, at Pathum Thani Stadium.
The home team, managed by “Coach Nguan” Surachai Chaturaphatphong, started with Saranon Anuin as the goalkeeper. The defensive lineup included Marco Ballini, Christian Gomis, and Waris Chuthong, with Santiphap Channgorm and Warintorn Jamnongwat as wingbacks. The midfield trio consisted of Kritsada Kaman, Irfan Dolah, and Freddy Alvarez, while Chananan Pombubpha and Ranil Santana led the attack.
BG Pathum United had an early chance in the 2nd minute when Ranil Santana fired a shot from outside the penalty area, but it was comfortably saved by Thanh Hau’s goalkeeper. The home side came close again in the 8th minute when Warintorn Jamnongwat made a solo effort into the box, only to be denied by the keeper.
In the 13th minute, Santiphap Channgorm delivered a pass to Ranil Santana, who attempted to capitalize from the right side of the penalty area, but Thanh Hau’s goalkeeper, Trinh Xuan Hoang, blocked the shot.
The 27th minute saw BG Pathum United create another opportunity from a free kick by Freddy Alvarez, with Marco Ballini heading the ball straight to the keeper. Moments later, Alvarez had another chance from a free kick outside the box, but his shot missed the target. The first half ended goalless.
The second half began with a substitution for BG Pathum United as Ilhan Fandi replaced Chananan Pombubpha. Thanh Hau came close in the 46th minute when Luiz Antonio’s shot went over the bar.
In the 47th minute, Freddy Alvarez’s free kick for the home side was saved by the visiting team’s goalkeeper. Another chance came in the 56th minute when Alvarez set up Ilhan Fandi in the penalty area, but Trinh Xuan Hoang made a crucial save. Ranil Santana followed up with a long-range effort a minute later, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.
BG Pathum United introduced Chanathip Songkrasin in the 60th minute, replacing Warintorn Jamnongwat.
Thanh Hau threatened in the 69th minute with a header by Yago Ramos, but Saranon Anuin made a vital save. Just a minute later, Thanh Hau broke the deadlock through Doan Ngoc Thanh, taking a 1-0 lead.
In the 76th minute, BG Pathum United made two more substitutions, bringing on Sanchai Nonthasila and Nattawut Suksum for Santiphap Channgorm and Marco Ballini.
In the 89th minute, BG Pathum United found their equalizer when Sanchai Nonthasila scored from inside the penalty area, ensuring a 1-1 draw.
The match concluded with both teams sharing the spoils. BG Pathum United will now shift their focus to Thai League 1, where they will face Rayong FC on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at WHA Rayong Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
